NZ sheep dog trial championships a great success
Weather and economic climate overcome for highly successful championships
Despite Taranaki being the smallest sheep dog trial centre in New Zealand, it hosted one of the most successful championship events in recent years.
Both the New Zealand and North Island championships were held at Mangamingi in May and local organisers did a splendid job of handling inclement weather and the current tough economic conditions, plus heavy workloads, to ensure the success of the event.
The Taranaki centre received a generous grant from TET to assist in meeting the costs of hosting the premium event on the NZ sheep dog trial calendar.
"The local businesses, like motels, restaurants and bars etc, would have benefited greatly from trialists from every corner of New Zealand over the week," reflected Taranaki centre president, Ken Lobb.
"We could not have succeed without the grant from TET."
